When purchasing a GM SUV for your family, you’re probably thinking of sport practices, shopping trips, and summer vacations — and planning for all the gear you’ll need to load in. From the GMC Acadia and Buick Enclave to the Chevrolet Equinox, you’re sure to fit your family and their belongings comfortably. When it comes to those summer road trips out to the East Coast or into the Kentucky mountains, here are some tips to pack light for a summer road trip with your GM SUV.
For starters, try writing out a list of what you’ll need to bring. Seeing it all written out can help cut down nonessentials and keep you organized. You’re less likely to throw in items impulsively when you’re following a plan.
As you’re packing, select versatile items. For example, bring quick-drying shorts that can be used for hiking, swimming, and touring the town. Bring biodegradable soap that can double as body wash and laundry soap.
For a weeklong road trip, REI experts Kirsten Golly and Chelsey Lynne recommend to start packing by following the 1-2-3-4-5-6 rule. Pack one hat, two pairs of shoes, three bottoms, four tops, five pairs of socks, and six pairs of undergarments. From there, simply add necessities specific to your destination such as a swimsuit or rain jacket. Plan to do laundry during your trip if traveling for longer than a week.
